Holdeman Mennonite Women’s Story Group
What: 4 Day Mennonite Women’s Story Group
When: November 11-14, 2024
Where: Fort Collins, Colorado
Cost: $1850
What is a story group?
You have a story.
Your story is different from your testimony. It is made up of the many moments you have lived through and what it felt like to be you in those moments. The story of your childhood and young adulthood has impacted how you perceive your current reality, and how you interact with the people in your life, and how you engage with God.
A story group is a safe space where you take some time away from your regular life to stop and pay attention to the events of your life, your perceptions about those events, and how you have been shaped and impacted by your experiences.
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the issues of life.” To guard your heart is to consider all that has touched it, affected it - because all of those things impact the issues of your life.
We are offering a space for you to do just that.
What to expect from the week?
-
Homework
We will be asking you to consider and answer some questions about your life, and then asking you to think about a story provoked by those questions. You will bring that story with you to the group.
-
Teaching
We offer teaching to help you better understand how some of the things that have happened in your life may have impacted you, and how to begin to heal in areas that have experienced hurt, pain, and harm.
-
Connection
You will be with other Holdeman Mennonite women, like you, sharing your stories in a confidential setting. We do this because we believe that this type of setting offers the best opportunity for healing and transformation. You will discover that in places where you have felt isolation, alone in your story, in reality there are other women who have known similar things and also been feeling alone. Together you will feel a solidarity that helps build hope for the future.
-
Reflection
There will be time each day for you to reflect and write in your journal. You will be able to walk, pray, sit, ponder and in that you will discover more about yourself.
-
Restoration
The goal of this experience is that you would recover parts of yourself that have been lost, shut down, or shushed into hiding. God created you with a unique purpose, and we want to help you discover and restore all that original creation so you can be the fullest version of yourself.
-
Fellowship
We’ve designed a safe space with you in mind. You can rest here. Allow God to meet you and nourish you in unique and extravagant ways.

In our experience storywork, it is important to engage both men and women in the journey toward healing. If the statement “what is broken in relationship is healed in relationship” is true, healing requires relationships with both. Chris and Tracy each have years of experience working with women in their trauma stories, and bring a dynamic to the work that is fun, kind, disruptive and healing.
-
For those outside Colorado, fly in and out of Denver International Airport. You are welcome to rent a car or take the Groome Shuttle from the airport to your lodging in Fort Collins. Directions to the intensive location will be provided for those who would like to drive. If you are local to Fort Collins, we strongly encourage you to find lodging away from home. This provides you the privacy and space to process the experience without the potential of defaulting back into your normal responsibilities and routine.
-
Some homework questions will be sent to you to help prepare for our time together. We will ask you to do this and return it to us prior to the group so that we can prepare accordingly.
-
Individual work is extremely important to explore your story. And, while much can happen in your personal counseling, God has designed community to be a place of healing and restoration. To experience a group of women who have walked similar paths, and to encourage one another toward a new story, is powerful and unique.
