Storywork at ReStory

“We don’t just have stories. We are stories.” - Daniel Taylor

What is Storywork?

We all have significant stories that shape our beliefs about ourselves, our relationships, the world, and our faith in God.

Stories from the past inform how we engage in the present. We may find ourselves feeling stuck, frustrated, or in pain if we haven’t addressed the stories in our past that have shaped our belief of who we are.

Storywork Coaching invites you to enter all your stories from a posture of honesty, kindness, and honor so you can reclaim parts of yourself that are lost.

In Storywork, we go deeper than symptom management or behavior change. We know true healing comes from addressing the driving narratives below the surface. Storywork is a deep dive into who you are, and we are leading experts in this work.

How is Storywork different than therapy?

Storywork is not therapy, as it does not address issues of mental health or diagnoses.

Therapists have completed master’s-level training in a counseling-related field, and are regulated by state licensing boards. They are further qualified in the diagnosis of mental health disorders, medical field collaboration, and have received broader training in psychological health.

Storywork Coaches have received certifications and training qualifying them for Storywork coaching. All of our coaches are trained in our ReStory Institute Level One and receive ongoing development, consultation, and supervision. ReStory’s Storywork team is primarily available for online Storywork, though some are available in person in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Is Storywork right for me?

For the client, a Storywork session and therapy session will feel very similar. At ReStory, therapy and Storywork contain many overlapping themes.

However, if a client is experiencing acute mental health symptoms (meaning their mental health affects their ability to function in day-to-day life), active addiction, or wants active support with a mental health diagnosis, they need to see a therapist rather than a Storywork Coach.
