Mallory Redmond, MA

Storywork Coach Resident

Meet Mallory

Courage requires fear; some the most healing and transformational experiences originate with very small and scared yeses. Deeply engaging our story is not the easiest path, but it is a holy invitation to a more embodied, healed, and whole way of moving through the world.

Auto-pilot can feel comfortable and even necessary for a season, but to really be in the driver’s seat of our own life, we have to be able to understand why we navigate our self-perception, relationships, and theology in the way we do. The courage to say a timid or suspicious “yes” to engaging our story is the bridge that takes us to know and be who we were created to be. There is so much freedom on the other side of the fear.

I know, because of my own fear-filled yeses—some of which have brought me here, to this sacred space of joining others in their own storywork.

Mallory is a Storywork Coach Resident. In the licensed therapy world, this position would be similar to an Intern or a Licensed Clinical Counselor Candidate (LPCC). For Storywork, this means she has completed The ReStory Institute Level One, has experience sitting with people in their stories, and is continuing a season of training and supervision. As such, she can offer a reduced rate during her residency.

  • I really enjoy running outdoors; sometimes, I'll create a new route, leading myself somewhere I've never gone. Even if I'm not always sure of where I'm going, I always know that by retracing my steps, I'll find my way home.

Storywork is a similar journey. As we grow, we continue to forge new paths. Not only can we find our way "home" by retracing our steps, but we can also learn a lot about ourselves by surveying the path we've been on--sometimes the path is given, sometimes chosen, usually it's a little bit of both.

There are many entry points in Storywork, but I find that describing the scenes and experiences of today will often, eventually, take us back to an earlier path. With so much courageous intention, we can, together, begin to understand why we choose the paths we do, why some things we approach on the journey will trigger us, and why others make us want to hide. Retracing our steps with grace and tenderness invites the healing and understanding that can unleash us to run freely and unashamedly on the paths we choose.

  • Everywhere I have lived, a new part of me has been birthed. I cannot tell you about me without naming all of the places I have been born.

I was raised outside of Chicago (Cubs! Bears! Bulls!). After college at The University of Iowa followed by a wild, two-year stint in Australia, I landed in Seattle. There, I obtained my Master's Degree from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, began deep personal therapeutic work, and (last, but not least), I became a foodie.

These days, I am in Dayton, Ohio, where I have continued to experience my own re-birth, and where I gave literal birth to my two daughters, Evelyn and Annie. I love writing, running, food-centered Instagram accounts, and making meaning out of pretty much everything.
